Just for a bit of variety, I finished off the holiday with the Archaeology Summer School at Oideas Gael. I wasn't sure what to expect - possibly just walking round the local monuments and being told all about them. In the end, it was anything but! We walked around the monuments all right, but we had to do the telling. It was an interesting style of 'teaching' and a lot of fun, as we examined the evidence and then argued over our own theories until we came to some conclusions - and I'm sure we all learned and remembered far more that way than from more traditional lectures. Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Prof. Herity and Dr. Kelly for organising such an interesting and mentally stimulating week.
I've not bothered with the general photos of the antiquities here, as a lot can be seen on the page from 2000.

Kilclooney Dolmen - very impressive one - the nearby Dolmen Centre is well worth a visit, and they can direct you to the dolmen. Larger view Full size |
